Sunshine happens when experimental jazz goes Asian by way of Brazil. Meet Sunny Yang, Jazz musician. Sunny Yang is a Korean Jazz pianist, vocalist and composer, who plays many genres in her arrangements and compositions. Her specialty is performing Jazz vocals while accompanying herself and improvising on piano. She is inspired by Nat King Cole, Shirly Horn, Carmen Mcrae, Eliane Elias, Diana Krall and Tania Maria.

 

Sunny is in her second year of graduate studies at NYU Steinhardt, where she learns from great teachers including Ralph Lalama, who has praised her “haunting and inviting” voice; Don Friedman, who described her as a “talented pianist and singer”; Jean-Michel Plic, who called “her hard working, committed, sensitive and a fast learner.”

 

She entered Berklee College of Music with a world tour scholarship and had a double major in piano/voice. While at Berklee, she discovered an interest in Brazilian and Latin music. She studied those styles with great teachers and players. She developed singing skills in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Sunny performs a very wide range of styles: Asian experimental jazz, American swing jazz, Brazilian and Latin Jazz and Neo-soul funk. It was a very good experience for her growth as a musician.

 

Sunny, who was naturally drawn to music at a young age, began training in classical piano at the age of 9. She won first prize in a Beethoven sonata competition at age 15. She ventured into many styles of music before deciding to focus on jazz. 

 

Now Sunny plays in l Jazz clubs around New York City with her group. Today her audience is gradually growing from Boston to New York and Korea.

Last summer, Her duo K-POP  album released. She participate in composing writing lyrics,arranging, playing piano and sining on every song (All producing)

She is striving to be balanced in her personal and professional lives. She is always thinking ,how do I find time for other aspects of my life while still allowing myself to grow musiclally.
